Treat Yo'Self - my Favourite Advent Calendars of 2015

November 2, 2015 Danielle D'Ornellas
Countdown the days to Christmas with Benefit!

Countdown the days to Christmas with Benefit!

One of my favourite Christmas memories as a child is the daily ritual of popping open that teeny-tiny window in my advent calendar every morning for that tiny treat inside. It didn't matter that the chocolate was the size of a dime, it was CHOCOLATE, for BREAKFAST. That rare treat only came around every 12 months, but I loved every day of it.

Years later, it's no surprise that I'm a big fan of Advent Calendars as they bring me right back to my childhood. To celebrate the countdown to my favourite time of the year (yes, I'm counting down to the countdown) here are a few of my favourite advent calendars of 2015.

Consumables

Davids Tea Advent Calendar ($40)
I'm no stranger to this advent calendar. It's been my go-to for the last two years! Each day you can wake up to a different tea in your mug, in teensy little tins in these tiny little drawers. Davids Tea claims that each tin can make two cups of tea, but some can make three or four depending on the blend and its density. While I love this calendar, I didn't buy one this year because I just have too much tea right now! But this is a great deal and a great gift for any tea lover. These sell out FAST though, so try to find one at your local Davids Tea ASAP.

Starbucks Advent Calendar ($44.95)
Unlike some of the others listed here, this is an advent calendar for the traditional purist. Each shiny little Starbucks ornament contains a piece of chocolate or peppermint bark, with a $5 Starbucks gift card forming the base of the tree. So you can add to your decoration collection at home daily, enjoy a piece of chocolate in the morning, and buy a latte with the card!

Benefit Party Popper ($54)
Benefit's yearly Advent Calendar is a much sought-after product by beauty lovers everywhere. It offers 12 deluxe sized samples of the brands most coveted beauty products, from primers, to blushes, mascaras to lip balms. If you don't already have a lot of Benefit's classic products in your arsenal, this is a great way to get your collection started or to add to your collection with some great travel-sized products.

Ciate London - Mini Mani Month ($71)
Treat your fingers and toes, and enhance your nail polish collection with Ciate's 28 nail polishes and 6 nail accessories (glitter, strengtheners and more.) This kit features more than enough standard colours and festive ones to enhance an already-bursting collection, or to help a new beauty collector to build a great collection of their own.

Lush 12 Days of Christmas ($99.95)
I recently had a blast at the Lush Christmas event promoting all the delicious holiday inspired products they had ready to share for Christmas. Their advent calendar, the 12 Days of Christmas features a selection of their special holiday products and some of the year-round classics with bath bombs, shower gels, soaps and more. If I didn't already have a few of these products, this would be my pick this year.

L'Occitane Advent Calendar ($49.99)
And last, but not least. This pretty Advent Calendar is my pick for my 2015 Advent Calendar. It features 24 different products every day, across the wide range of L'Occitane's most popular products. Their hand creams, shower oils, eau de toilette's and other delicacies are all represented in this package. Also? Free shipping starts at $49 so you can just buy it and send it off to yourself (or others!) No extra fee. I find that despite already owning quite a few L'Occitane products, I NEVER regret a purchase and often rebuy them whenever I can.

And that's that! But there are always more advent calendars due to be released this season so if these don't tickle your fancy, keep your eye out for one that makes you feel like a kid again!

What are you going to crack open this holiday?

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten πŸ˜‰.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is
