Going Down Under with Dr Roebucks

August 19, 2016 Danielle D'Ornellas

Dr Roebucks Serum, Lips & Face Products

A few weeks ago I had the chance to attend a product launch for Dr Roebucks, an Australia skincare line that went from homegrown secret to international success in just five short years. (Seriously, read this amazing story about how the brand began in The Globe & Mail.) Founders Zoe & Kim have made the circuit ever since, touting their products along with them on their travels and they don't seem to need to do it twice! Beauty editors love them, bloggers love them, and other brands love them too. So I was really excited to get in on the secret and test out these wonder products!

To start, Dr Roebucks' biggest and most popular products are two moisturizers simply called PURE and FACE, and you'll find that all their products follow this simple naming convention. Their body polish is called POLISH and lip product is LIPS. It's simple, it's minimal and it's brilliant. The company is also priBut this launch was not just about spreading awareness of the brand's best products, but also to help promote some newer products that are joining the collection this fall, namely two very interesting serums to level-up your skincare routine.

Let's get into it, shall we?

Dr Roebucks Reverse Aging Serum & Ultimate Hydrating Serum

NEW - Dr Roebucks Reverse Aging & Ultimate Hydrating Serum

I was pleased to receive not only the Ultimate Hydrating Serum, but also the Reverse Aging serum for testing. I'm not actively trying to 'reverse my aging' but I find that anti-aging products generally work well with my sensitive/combination skin type so I have a lot more than you'd think at my age. Both of these serums include Dr Roebucks proprietary CNYouthMolecule, a blend of Carnosine, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin A, C and E. These are all ingredients I generally look for in serums so it's interesting to see them all together.

The serum is a slightly thicker consistency than I was used to, but it really only needs an extra minute or two to sink into the skin. The smell is very light but I can definitely smell the very soothing scent of primrose oil in each one.

The serums aren't cheap, they come to about $79.95 each, but my skin does seem to drink it in! Time will tell if it replaces any of my go-to products from Ole Henriksen Truth Serum or Fresh Seaberry Face Oil, however.

Dr Roebucks Lips

Shea butter, macadamia oil, olive oil, beeswax, vitamin e, grapefruit oil and peppermint oil. There. Could a lip balm get any simpler than that? I'm a huge lipstick lover, especially dark matte shades, so this means my lips are often dry and ragged at the end of the day. While this lip balm isn't the same as using a lip conditioning mask, it is a hyper-moisturizing product you can use in-between to help your lips retain moisture. Even my boyfriend loves using it! Lips retails for $9.95.

NEW - Dr Roebucks Natural Cleansing Wipes

One of the most useful products I carry with me EVERYWHERE are cleansing wipes. I use these to remove my makeup (not eye makeup though, I STRICTLY use micellar water for my peeps), I use it to refresh my face throughout the day and I don't remember the last time I tried one that was as gentle as Dr Roebucks. After a few miserable experiences with 'gentle' wipes that left my skin irritated with perfumes and scents, it's nice to have a really gentle one that I can recommend on the blog again. The pack comes with 30 wipes and will retail for $14.95 when it comes out September 15th.

Dr Roebucks Face

Dr Roebucks Face

This powerful moisturizer is one of Dr Roebucks bestsellers and once you use it, it's not hard to understand why. We all know that Canadian weather can be pretty tough, especially in the colder months. Our climate can go from hot and humid to dry and chilly in just a few short weeks so it's no wonder our skin gets caught in the crossfire. Face is a wonderful way to rejuvenate the skin with an ultra-rich moisturizer that absorbs neatly into the skin, including regenerative and nourishing ingredients like rosehip oil, vitamin e oil and macadamia oil. I especially like Face for the very subtle hint of relaxing lavender fragrance that it has. Usually I find that lavender is very tricky to use effectively but Dr Roebucks has it right. Face retails for $59.95 but this is a BIG jar so it will last you quite a while.

Overall I'm really impressed with the products I've tried from Dr Roebucks so far and I'm definitely adding these products to my regular skincare regime moving forward!

You can find Dr Roebucks in Canada at Shopper’s Drug Mart and beautyboutique.ca. Follow the brand on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

While these products were supplied for review, all opinions are my own.

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
