Budget Beauty: Sephora Chic it Easy

June 23, 2016 Danielle D'Ornellas

Sephora Favorites - Chic It Easy

Here I was, at work, minding my own business at lunch-time when a little birdie whispered in my ear that there was a new Sephora Favorites collection that DESPERATELY needed to come home with me. It was a collection of timeless, elegant products that can whip together an effortlessly chic look, or be used to create a very elegant and finished face. Whichever your preference, it delivered.

So obviously I took it home with me! Let's dig in.

Sephora Chic It Easy

Make Up For Ever, Yves Saint Laurent, Klorane, Atelier Cologne, Laura Mercier, Nars & more!

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil in M-10
I have to admit I didn't focus on this eyepencil when buying the kit, but when I took it home I realized I have M-36 which I got from Generation Beauty which isn't a dupe but it's really close. I really love the look and ease of use of these pencils, and they have really good staying power. Despite the fact that my eyeliner collection is FULL of black pencils I'm trying to use up, it's nice to have a high-end deluxe pencil I can throw in my make-up bag at work!

Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
I'm a big fan of dry shampoo (who isn't!?) and while Klorane isn't my favourite, it's definitely a useful product for your arsenal. I can never have enough dry shampoo because I'm an honest lady and I'll admit that I hate washing my hair every other day.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum in Nude
This is one of three products in this kit that made me need to buy it. I've used a deluxe sample of Laura Mercier's magic moisturizer before and LOVED the slightly shimmery finish and feel of the product and have had it on my "to buy" list ever since. Nude matches really well on my skintone (For reference, I usually use Smashbox's Camera Ready BB Cream in Light) and this is the perfect time of year to move from heavy foundation right to tinted moisturizers and BB creams.

Atelier Cologne in Orange Sanguine
I have SO MANY SAMPLES of this cologne and I can't get enough. It's a very mature, citrus scent with hints of sandalwood, jasmine and amber (full disclosure, I can't TELL YOU what amber smells like, I just know I like it!) You can find a full description on Fragrantica.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir
It is HOT HOT HOT in Toronto this week so I was really excited to see this Caudalie Beauty Elixir in the kit because I love a good, relaxing face mist. Unfortunately, me and this product are not to be. I did a VERY VERY light mist to test it out, and I sneezed probably 20 times in 15 minutes and went through a half dozen tissues in the process. My nose started running and I KNEW this wasn't for me. If you have anything in the realm of mild perfume sensititives AVOID this product.

Formula X Nail Polish Polytechnic
Who doesn't like a cute red nail? I love Formula X but it is a SUPER TINY sample and I have a few Formula X minis and they are REALLY tiny. Like, the brush is itsy bitsy. It's a really pretty red though so I'm sure I can use it for Canada Day next week!

NARS Jungle Red Lipstick
Guys, guys, guys. I have to admit something pretty serious to you right now. THIS. IS. MY. FIRST. NARS. LIPSTICK. Yeeeeupp! Somehow I've got this long without one, so I was SUPER EXCITED to see a demi-matte velvetey rouge in this box. I'm totally going to wear this ALL THE TIME! I've wanted a NARS for so long that this was a MUST for me in the kit.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat in Luminous Ivory
Last but not least, one of my Holy Grail items in the flesh! This highlighter sells in Canada for $50 so I basically I got this for an absolute steal. I have MULTIPLE highlighters from Jelly Pong to Benefit and Hourglass so I couldn't justify spending money on this alone, but in a kit with this kind of value? JUST COULDN'T RESIST. All it takes is a little sipe to add a beautiful sweep of light and shine to my face, perfect for summer.

Wait, WHY is this a budget beauty post you may ask?

Well it's because these Sephora Favorites kits are such amazing deals! I've purchased a few over the years and they almost always have at least one or two full size with all their deluxe sized products. It's especially good if you're building your collection.

But I have to admit, the REGULAR price of this product was supposed to be $49, which for having the Touche Eclat, the Laura Mercier Moisturizer and Nars lipstick is well worth it, BUT I GOT IT FOR $33 thanks to a pricing error. That's right, I found a pricing error thanks to some ladies in the Canadian Beauty Bloggers group (yay!) who saw it first. So yeah, thanks guys!

Also, I saved MORE on this because I used Ebates.ca and it was 8% cashback. (Sign up today!)

What's your favourite Sephora Favorites kit?

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back

Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
