Beauty Box Five - March, 2014

March 23, 2014 Danielle D'Ornellas
BB5-MarchTitle.jpg

Out with the old, in with the new. Guess what time it is? Time for some SPRING CLEANING with my Beauty Box 5 for March! This month is all about throwing out makeup you don't use, stopping bad habits and getting clean, gorgeous skin. And it's also clear that Beauty Box 5 is taking it a step further with a variety of all natural, organic and paraben-free products and I'm all game.

Tree Hut Shea Body Butter Coconut Lime - $7.49 for 7 oz

When it rains body butters it pours! Just last week I bought a bunch of Soap & Glory body butters and of course I get a Beauty Box 5 with one that knocks them all out of the park! This body butter is made with organic shea butter, it's paraben free, and the coconut extract makes my poor dry skin feel absolutely wonderful! Unlike a lot of thick body butters, it's not greasy and absorbs into the skin pretty quickly. This product is a total win.

H20 Plus Hand & Nail Cream - $15.00 for 6 oz

On the reverse, this H20+ lotion isn't as natural as the Tree Hut body butter but it has done WONDERS for my cuticles. While the Tree Hut smooths, this nail cream really locks in the moisture and I've definitely seen an improvement. It does, however, have an INTENSE perfume scent. I put it on at night instead of during the day because it's really quite strong for day-to-day wear. I wouldn't buy this, but I'd buy the unscented version of this cream.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Makeup Base - $18.99 for .29 oz

I use primers and foundations and the occasional under-eye concealer, but I've never really used a makeup base in my day-to-day routine. I'm not sure how this is supposed to be an all-in-one product since it's such a light colour, but maybe it'll make a good eyeshadow base. I'm going to give it a shot but it's awfully sheer for anything else. I am glad that this is paraben-free though, it makes me curious about their other products.

Jane's Pick All Natural Soaps - $8.00 for 5 oz

Mine came unmarked, but I'm pretty sure I have Purity, a mix of relaxing lavender and rejuvenating peppermint that my boyfriend described as 'old-fashioned-y soap smell'. The lavender overwhelms the menthol, but lavender is one of my favorite scents so that's not a negative thing :) I haven't used this soap yet because I have a huuuuge backlog of hand-soaps to use, but I'm really happy with this product.

Swissco Dual Sided Facial Pad - $2

I can't really use this for my face because it's too hash for my skin. I'll pass it along though.

My verdict? March was a total win but spring is coming and I'm COMPLETELY tired of hand lotions and body creams. Bring on the makeup Beauty Box 5! Bring on spring!

Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box that sends 5 samples per month for the cost of $12 per box if you buy individually, $10 per box if you buy quarterly, or $8 per box if you get a year subscription. They also send exclusive promotions and sales offers to members. I'm a fan of BB5 because while the products aren't exactly high-end, they send a variety of products that are harder to get in Canada, they are usually generous samples and shipping is free! Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back
Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.
To celebrate our 14th anniversary, @thecjm and I made the best of it and ordered the set course from @alobaryorkville including some amazing scallops, a duck confit, amazing milk bread & a truly decadent millefeuille, streamed their Spotify playl

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
