Beauty Box Five January 2014

Beauty Box Five - January 2014

Beauty Box Five - January 2014

As noted in my February Beauty Box Five review, I actually subscribed to BB5 a few weeks after the January beauty box was out, but they sent me an extra January box as a bonus for subscribing for three months at a time, whee! So for $30, I received four boxes that are worth $7.50 each? Win! So, this is old news for a review, but here's what I thought about the products inside... (Excuse the grainy photo, cellphone again!)

Beauty Box 5 - January 2014 - That Awkward Moment

H20+ Spa Sea Lotus Body Wash

I love H20+ products, but I always seem to have an overload of beauty products and never get around to buying some of their stuff! So I was pleased to see this sea lotus body wash in my bonus box. It smells luxurious, it really does have that spa-feel to it, and it leaves a really fresh, ocean-y smell after a shower. I can definitely see myself buying this or another body wash from them sometime soon.

Jergens Daily Moisture Dry Skin Moisturizer

Ok, admittedly not the most exciting product in this box, but my sample is almost already done! Jergens is one of my go-to lotions in the winter because it really does a good job of preserving my poor, dry skin. This isn't a high quality product, but it does the job and winter is the PERFECT time of year to have it, literally, on hand.

Epic Blend Hemp Coconut Lip Balm

Uhm, HELLO! I'm a lip balm addict and I'm currently on a 'no-buy' for balms, so I was verrrry happy to see this product in the box. Obviously I opened it right away and was impressed by the quality of the balm. I love coconut and didn't smell the hemp very strongly and this applied just as smoothly as my Burt's Bees with no greasy finish! I've been trying to move away from balms with a lot of chemical ingredients in it, and Epic Blend will lead the way. They also do beeswax-free vegan ones too.

Nubar Cuticle & Nail Oil

The first thing I noticed about this product was that the lid was slightly unscrewed and it had leaked a bit in my box! But since it has a really nice, fruity smell to it, I didn't mind so much. Nubar cuticle oil is also a great product for winter because it helps dry cuticles get a little TLC. I'm currently working on a few cuticle oils but this will definitely come in handy soon. They are also vegan and cruelty-free, something that seems to be a trend for Beauty Box 5 brands lately.

Exfoliating Gloves

At first I was like, "oh", but then I realized my current pair are basically holding together by a few threads so this pair came in 'handy' rather quickly!

That Awkward Moment Cosmetic Mirror

I love small mirrors to put in my purse, on my desk at work, etc. It's definitely an 'ad' but that never stopped me from using Kick-Ass bandaids before! Unfortunately (fortunately?) the decal has already started scratching off just from taking it in and out of my purse so I'm going to have to find another sticker to put on it.

Soooo, there you have it! Oddly enough, I preferred this to my February box! I know a lot of people weren't that happy with this one, but it's all stuff I totally use (and I've used a lot of it already) and it fits in with my winter skin needs. I thought it was pretty perfect and the timing was right, even though I got it in late February! Sign up for Beauty Box 5 with my referral link and let me know what you're looking forward to in April.

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back
Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.
To celebrate our 14th anniversary, @thecjm and I made the best of it and ordered the set course from @alobaryorkville including some amazing scallops, a duck confit, amazing milk bread & a truly decadent millefeuille, streamed their Spotify playl

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
