October and November Empties!

December 9, 2014 Danielle D'Ornellas
October & November Empties!

October & November Empties!

December is here, it's finally here! And that means one of three things.

1) I can start drinking my David's Tea Advent Calendar starting today (Follow me on Instagram for my occasional Selfteas!)
2) It's almost 2015, eep!
3) It's time for my October & November empties!

I finished a lot of products this month, and purged a lot of unused ones to my Pinterest sale board or for my Shoebox project boxes, so a lot of products slipped through my fingers this month. Here are the ones I finished these last two months alone.

Bath & Body

Aveeno, La Senza, Soap & Glory, Vitabath, Jergens, Vitabath

Aveeno, La Senza, Soap & Glory, Vitabath, Jergens, Vitabath

Vitabath - Wild Red Cherry
This American bath and body company is over 50 years old and recently launched a new brand of products that are sulfate-free, paraben-free, with a skin-enrichening blend of Vitamins A, B3, B5, C and E. I received this deluxe bottle in my June Beauty Box 5 box (my last GOOD box from them!) and finally started using it in the fall. The wild cherry scent is amazing and, unlike other cherry scented products, smells like cherry and not cherry MEDICINE. It's a moisturizing body wash that doesn't reek of fragrance, leaving my skin soft and satisfied.
Love it or leave it? I highly recommend this brand. You can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart for $10 for a full-size wash.

La Senza - Snow Mint Bubble Bath
I received this as a Christmas present a year or so ago and recently dug it out of a box while unpacking from our move. The scent was promising but I basically had to use THE ENTIRE BOTTLE, 4 FLUID OUNCES, for any bubble action. And it was meagre at best! I couldn't believe how useless it was.
Love it or leave it? LEAVE IT.

Veelightful Orange with a Kick Death Star Bath Bomb
I almost forgot that I used this product because that was the day we realized our pipe had collapsed in the basement and this bath caused a MAJOR FLOOD IN MY BASEMENT. Lol, but I did smell amazing after using Vee's great combination of orange and black pepper essential oil. It really adds a complexity to the citrus scent and left my skin feeling awesome.
Love it or leave it? Love love love. Learn more about Veelightful here.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Buttercream
I'm a big fan of this UK brand and the Sugar Crush line is no different. It's a disarmingly delicious body butter that smells like a key lime pie and leaves skin super soft and lush. I kept this at work as my 'work lotion' and people were constantly coming up and asking me what I was wearing.
Love it or leave it? Absolutely love it. This can also be found at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
If you have sensitive skin or an allergy to fragrance and need an unscented but highly moisturizing lotion, this has to be your pick. I was really impressed with the consistency of this sample and would definitely recommend this to people who need scent-free options.
Love it or leave it? Love it.

Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer- Medium to Tan
I received a bunch of these samples in the summer and while I got through a bunch of them already, I still have a few left for next year. After I went to the Bahamas earlier in November, I used this packet to keep my tan going for a few days longer. It has a slightly tangy, tan-y smell and you DEFINITELY need to watch where you apply it, but it's not bad for a moisturizing lotion.
Love it or leave it? It's not bad. I wouldn't go out of my way, but it does the trick.

Gud Floral Cherrynova Body Lotion
This wasn't a bad body lotion. Thick but not suffocatingly so, but I'd like to try a different scent before I make my final decision. This one was enhh.
Love it or leave it? Not sure yet!

Dove Go Fresh Cool Essentials Anti-Perspirant
This isn't bad for wetness and odour protection, but I think the smell is a bit too strong. It also stuck to my clothing and left a bit of residue. I've tried other Dove anti-perspirants that i liked better.
Love it or leave it? Leavve it.

Skincare

Garnier, Olay, La Fresh, First Aid Beauty, Clinique

Garnier, Olay, La Fresh, First Aid Beauty, Clinique

Garnier Skin Renew Dark Spot Treatment Mask
I have a full review of this in 'Battle of the Sheet Masks' but this is a decent sheet mask for skin-soothing solutions!
Love it or leave it? It's good! Give it a try.

First Aid Beauty - Skin Rescue Purifying Mask with Red Clay
I've heard a lot of good things about this brand but until this month I never had the chance to try any of their products. I'm a fan of masks, whether clay or food, or peelable but I haven't tried many of the latter that really wowed me... until now. After using this really rich and SHIMMERY mask (bright red, and shimmering, it's very seasonal!) I was won over. Once I finish off a few more of my Boscia and Origins masks I'm buying the full-size of this for regular usage. Yeah, it's that good.
Love it or leave it? Duh, love.

Garnier Clean+ Impurities Exfoliating Scrub
I REALLY liked the results of this scrub. It is a tough formula so I wouldn't recommend it for daily use, but it really got in there and helped clean out all the grease and oil in my skin, exfoliating at the same time. I'll definitely give this a try in full-size.
Love it or leave it? Love.

Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Moisturizer
This is a GREAT hyper-moisturizing lotion that is exactly as it says, INTENSE. It's got a bit of a soap-y odour to it, but it is a staple in my house for the dry, scratchy winter.
Love it or leave it? Love it.

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Facial Wash
It's good for sensitive skin but does still feel a bit drying for my liking.
Love it or leave it? Leave it.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
Clinique has been a staple in my skincare regime for years, the dramatically different line specifically for about a decade, but I'm ready for a change. It's not a great moisturizer to build makeup over, and I find that it does leave my skin a bit greasy after application. It IS fantastic for sensitive skin however, and is 100% fragrance free so it's always a good option to have on-hand when you have flare-ups.
Love it or leave it? Like it, but I'm moving on.

Biore Daily Makeup Removing Towelettes
This isn't going to be much of a review because I opened this sample package and it was EMPTY. There was a little bit of liquid in it, but that's all. Weeeiiirrrddd.

La Fresh Oil-Free Makeup Remover Wipes
These re a little drier than I like in my makeup remover wipes, but it did a great job of taking off eye makeup without irritating my eye so it still gets a thumbs up from me. Paraben-free and appropriate for sensitive skin with a mild to almost-nothing scent.
Love it or leave it? Like it!

Olay Wet Cleansing Towelettes
This is the reigning champion of makeup remover wipes for me so far. It's not dripping with moisture, but it's still damp enough to get the job done, it's gentle on the eye area and it's COMPLETELY UNSCENTED AND FRAGRANCE-FREE which is a must-, must, must for me.
Love it or leave it? Love it. Love it. Love it.

Nail Care

Quo & Sally Hansen

Quo & Sally Hansen

Quo Nail Polish Remover - Non-Acetone
I accidentally bought the non-acetone remover a few months ago and have been trying to finish it since. This is NOT good for shimmers or glitter polishes, only creme-type finishes as it doesn't pick up enough to remove from the former, and still you need to fight to remove the latter.
Love it or leave it? Get the acetone one instead, if you can.

Sally Hansen Nail Quenchers Base Coat
I love and loathe this product. I love it because it totally does leave my nails hydrated and acts as a great binding base coat to effortlessly apply polish over. But I hate it because it gets gunky when it's about 1/3rd full, wasting a lot of product.
Love it or leave it? You lose a lot of product, so leave it.

What did you love this last month?

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
