June 2016 Project Pan: All about that base!

June 2, 2016 Danielle D'Ornellas

Once upon a time, I used to do monthly beauty empties and 'Finish 5 by Fall' and other such posts which really helped me work through my plethora of beauty and skincare products. Once upon a time. But as I got busier and busier I had less time to think about what I was using and wasn't using and found I JUST, KEPT, BUYING new things!

As I'm preparing for a move sometime this summer to a condo (the hunt continues, 2-3 nights per week are literally dedicated to viewings and listings!) I need to start paring down my 'base' collection of skincare and face products a bit, and the easiest way to do that is to give myself a little mini-challenge for this month.

Unlike some of the other times I've tried this type of challenge, I'm only doing this project with face and skincare products I actually like. Too many times have I tried to finish products I hated, which makes me resent the challenge. I'm cool with tossing or giving away those things now, and only focusing on what I like.

Clinique, Cover Girl, Oz Naturals, Lush Cosmetics, CoverFX, PurLisse, Stila, Sephora, Smashbox and Olay!

My products:

  • CoverFX Anti-Aging Primer
  • Pur~lisse Pur~delicate soy milk cleanser
  • Stila Stay all day 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm
  • Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in Parfait
  • Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream in Light and Light/Medium
  • OLAY Total Effects CC Cream with SPF 15
  • Clinique Gentle Light Powder in Glow 2
  • Cover Girl Clean Sensitive Skin Pressed Powder
  • OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum
  • Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
  • LUSH Cosmetics Cosmetics Warrior

Of the products listed above, some I simply need to finish more of (mainly the primer, the concealer and the powders) but for the rest, I'm fairly confident I will be able to use them up completely by the end of the month!

Now, the best part, the rewards!

If I finish up or use all my Smashbox BB cream, I can go and finally purchase the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Cover Stick Foundation that I've been lusting over! I already also have two BB creams waiting in the wings for when these Smashbox ones are finally through.

And once the OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Facial Serum is done, I have another one waiting in the wings. It's my third bottle of this stuff since I wrote a review of it last year and I can't get enough!

What are you trying to finish up this month?

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back
Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.
To celebrate our 14th anniversary, @thecjm and I made the best of it and ordered the set course from @alobaryorkville including some amazing scallops, a duck confit, amazing milk bread & a truly decadent millefeuille, streamed their Spotify playl

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
