Hello from the outside!

January 18, 2016 Danielle D'Ornellas
I should've blogged a thousand tiiiiiimes.

I should've blogged a thousand tiiiiiimes.

Helloooo!!! It's me! Remember me? Danielle? I post here sometimes? No?

I know, I know, it's been too long since my last post. Like...a really long time. But I really didn't MEAN to take such a long gap! It's just, you see I was a bit burnt out at the end of the year and needed to spend some time away from the internet (as best as a social media producer CAN step away from the internet). Over the last few weeks I've been:

  • Working
  • Holiday-ing
  • Ice-skating
  • Sleeping
  • Traveling
  • Playing Dragon Age Inquisition (My PS4 handle is Darlingmagpie, add me!)
  • Downsizing! (Yes, downsizing. You heard me right.)
  • Boot camp-ing (And BOY are my arms tired!)

My first instinct, as a guilty Canadian blogger, is to apologize for the absence. But truly? There is no need. I had no reviews or sponsored posts due, I had nobody waiting for my insight. I had nothing on my calendar that could not be put off. All the holiday products I purchased this year came well after they were announced so you've probably read about them on Temptalia or on another Canadian Beauty Blogger site, so you don't need my two cents!

I've also spent some time in the last month or so GETTING RID OF STUFF. I've donated a lot of unused/unopened products, given a lot of eyeshadows/hair products and other partially used/sampled stuff to friends, and chucked stuff that I honestly should've gotten rid of a long time ago. I got really inspired by Megan Joy's How to Organize your Makeup with Mujipost, and literally bought one of those cases myself and it's CHANGED EVERYTHING. I'll be highlighting my currently insane lipstick collection in an upcoming post. (I know, I know, I did a lipstick challenge last year and LEARNED NOTHING.)

And pink, and taupe, and black and brown and purple and blue...

And pink, and taupe, and black and brown and purple and blue...

I've also spent the last few weeks enjoying a lot of YouTube videos by vloggers like Samantha Jane (she decluttered her nail polish and I'm SO INSPIRED BUT TERRIFIED) and like Chelle from Makeup Your Mind (check out her amazing Viseart post, I want that palette so bad!). I've been tempted to jump on the YouTube train, at LEAST to do my empties posts (that giant bag of discards isn't getting any smaller!) But, I'm not quite ready to do my vlog debut. Yet.

That said, this post is officially helping me to shake the dust off, and get my ready to post more content in the next few weeks. It IS my two-year blog-a-versary soon and it would look untidy to be so far behind.

Oh, but here's the bad news.

I'm kinda on a low-buy. Like, a super low-buy. There are basically only five things I can buy right now so that will make blogging over the next few weeks a BIIIIT TRICKY. I do have some ideas though, so stay tuned!

What have you been up to this month? Are you on a no-buy/low-buy too? Let me know!

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
