Beauty Challenge: Five By Fall - The Finale!

October 21, 2015 Danielle D'Ornellas

In June I embarked upon a little beauty challenge with the Canadian Beauty Bloggers to finish five products that have been hanging out too long in my collection. Instead of choosing things that were easy, or things that I was close to finishing, I took a different tactic. I decided to try some things that had been hanging along way too long in my home.A body wash (which I'm notoriously bad at finishing) a super-strong face wash, a powder compact, a body lotion (I have SO MANY!) and a lipgloss. How'd I do? Check the side-by-side comparisons!

Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Latte Body Wash
Of course, almost immediately after declaring that I must finish this body wash by fall, I open up some travel ones and tried to dust those off instead. So, needless to say, I still have a bit to finish off. But guess WHAT? It's PUMPKIN SEASON so I finally smell appropriate to the season again. I guess that's a plus? But good lord, if this is the rate that I finish body wash, I won't need to buy any more for 5 years.

Benefit Hello Flawless in Champagne
When I started the challenge, this was the one product I was sure I would finish before fall! But I was wrong, I finished it even before AUGUST. Why? Because I bloody well dropped it on the floor and lost all but 5% of the product. Yes. I dropped this container of powder AGAIN. I'm unbelievable, and this is why I prefer loose powder. I'm too clumsy for pressed! That said, this was a GREAT powder, I just need a better match for my colour.

Biore Charcoal Cleanser
Despite only using this product once every other day or so, to keep oiliness at bay during the worst of the summer, I managed to make a pretty good dent in it! I'm not sure how much I'll use it in the winter, but considering I was able to reduce it by 30%, I think I'll keep trying to finish it off. It will remain in my medicine cabinet!

C.O. Bigelow Cinammint Lip Gloss
I love how when I get a new lip balm or gloss that I LIKE, that it goes missing within a week only to never be seen again. But when I have one that I dislike and can't stand? I get it back time and time again! I lost this Bigelow lip gloss for the majority of the summer, so I thought that I'd at least be able to knock this off the list. Then I found it in mid-September. Honestly.
Product remaining: 20%? Either way, it's chucked!

Deep Steep Grapefruit Bergamot Body Butter
This delicious body butter came to me during a Secret Santa swap at Christmas time and it's been sitting on my coffee table ever since. I've made a partial dent in it but I've got SO MANY OTHER body butters on the go that I want to finish this one and move on. At this point I have enough lotion to stay hydrated for years! YEARS! But really, this is a great body butter so using it up shouldn't be too difficult.

As I'm so obsessed with tracking my empties, it was a fun experiment to choose products in advance and try to finish them off. I noticed that after beginning this challenge, I even started targeting other things to finish off quickly too. (I have too much!) So I EXPECT to pick another five to finish for 2015 rather soon. Stay tuned!

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
