Beauty Box Five: June 2014

Beauty Box Five, June 2015: Summer Chic

Summer Chic: Less effort, more cool.

This is the mantra of Beauty Box 5's June box which bridges us from a cool May to a (hopefully) hot July, with a few summer necessities. I wouldn't say that all of these products are really summer specific, but you be the judge.

The Backgrounder

Beauty Box 5 is a really affordable beauty box that is $8 a box for a year subscription, $10 a box for a quarterly subscription and $12 a box if you buy individually. I highly recommend this box because it sends a variety of American brands you can't always find in Canada, and has been leaning towards products that are more natural and paraben-free in the last few months. And month to month? I use pretty much EVERYTHING I get from the boxes up! If you're interested, please use my referral link here. (Please keep in mind, there is a $3 charge now, per box, to ship to Canada, so subscribing for quarterly or yearly is the best deal.)

June 2014 Beauty Box 5

Nicka K New York Nail Polish in Ripe Apple - Full size

I really enjoyed my Nicka K lipstick from BB5 a few months ago, and I was happy to receive a new polish from this company. But I was a bit surprised at the colour. This is more of a fall/winter colour than summer. But I do like the red which resembles the sheen of a red delicious apple. And, bonus, this polish is formaldehyde-free.

Organix Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner

Organix Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner - Foil

I'm a slave to coconut oil. I use it as a makeup remover, moisturizer for knees/elbows, in my lip scrub and for the occasional facemask, but I've never used it in my hair! This Organix set promises to rehydrate parched, sun damaged hair with coconut water, electrolytes and coconut oil. And, these products are sulfate-free!

Glam Natural Vegan Mascara

Glam Natural Mascara - Full size (Yeah, it's tiny)

I'm definitely not in the market for a new mascara as I am already addicted to Benefit's They're Real and have a bunch of other dupes waiting on the sidelines, but this is a great product for women with sensitive eyes. Glam Naturals mascara is a vegan formula that is gluten-free, paraben-free and hypoallergenic for ladies who always wanted to flash darkened lashes but could never find the right product for their peepers.

Vita Bath Body Wash Wild Red Cherry - Sample size

If there's one thing I love, it's body wash. But if there's one thing I don't need any more of? It's body wash! Vita Bath's Wild Red Cherry has an amazingly rich smell that reminds me of orchards and gardens, a rich cherry that is delicious but also luxurious. I can't imagine a better smelling bath. It's a great scent for summer because I can't stop buying cherries from the farmer's market!

Eslor Introductory Collection

Eslor Introduction Collection Calming Kit - Foils

This is a sulfate and paraben-free collection of products made for people like me with sensitive skin that likes to erupt every now and again. I haven't tried these yet because they got stuck in a box during my move, but it has a variety of cleansers and masks to test out.

All in all, this was a good box. The VitaBath is probably my favourite thing in the box, but I like the Nicka K polish colour and the Organix shampoo smells sooo delicious. Good going BB5!

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back
Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
