2015 Beauty Resolutions

January 28, 2015 Danielle D'Ornellas
Because it's not easy being fabulous

Because it's not easy being fabulous

Hey all! I'm alive, I'M ALIVE! I took a little Winter-Blogging-Hiatus here for two reasons. First? I was really busy toodling around (and beyond) the GTA for a work event! Second? I wanted to take a step back from buying and writing and coveting and just commit to my January No-Buy1 and Full-Year No-Buy/Low Buy for a few weeks! I'll get to that update in a few days along with my new February challenge, but today's post is all about my New Year's Beauty Resolutions!

We all make goals we may or may not keep at the beginning of the year, why not some try failing at some that are related to beauty and fashion too? Here's what I'm challenging myself to in 2015. Some are easy fixes, but the others? Not quite so much. See if you can guess the ones I'm dreading the most!

1. Find the perfect BB cream
I think I've fallen in love with Smashbox's Camera Ready BB Cream, but the deluxe sample I'm using is probably a shade or two off my skin tone. My goal this year is to finally find the perfect, matched BB cream so my face doesn't look too pale or too orange! (I tried using this and got SO CONFUSED!)

2. Take better care of my cuticles
While I am known for always having long, healthy nails, my cuticles are a different story. As a former nail biter I find that I still sometimes fall into bad habits with my cuticles, leading to un-photogenic nails, despite their length and healthiness. I need to use my oils, balms and practice some self-control! I have all these polishes that need photographing!

Snip, SNIP!

Snip, SNIP!

3. Do something MAJOR with my hair
I turn the big 3-0 this spring (shock and awe, a beauty blogger reveals her age!) and I want to do something to celebrate. Why not cut my hair, or dye it for the first time in, oh, eight years? Stay tuned!

4. Step out of my comfort zone
Did you know that the 'boldest' eyeliner I own is an eggplant purple liner? Or that I never wear liner on my waterline? Or that I always do a simple flick? I may have perfected my personal eyeliner preference but it's BORING!

That's what Charles Barkley said!

5. Find my perfect brow-shape!
While I do happen to think I have PRETTY GREAT NATURAL BROWS, I could really do with some tips of the trade to just hone them a bit. I love keeping them big, but I just want to get a LOOK. You know, like a Cara Delevingne look!

6. Edit, edit, edit.
I'm really good at removing items from my wardrobe, but I'm not too good at using pieces in my wardrobe to their full potential! I tend to pick favourite pieces and just rely on them when I should be more PLAYFUL! I'm not a uniform girl, I should stop acting like it.

You said it honey.

You said it honey.

7. Accessorize!
When I was spending my time paying down my debt, most of my jewelry came from thrift stores, sales or swaps. I have a few key pieces I picked up only due to proximity at my old job but now I feel like I'm adrift! I really want to get fun and funky with statement pieces and some long-lasting buys.

Aaaand, that's it! What are you planning on doing this year? Any goals in mind?

Looks like it's time for my monthly makeup! This time last year I was only two weeks post-eye surgery so I couldn't wear makeup at all and then all of ~ this ~ happened. I was going through my vanity recently, not that I've had to desire to wear stuff again, and discovered that SO many of my products had gone bad, and, of them, how many were things I had barely touched. I'm not heading to MINIMALISM or anything, but it has been a bit cathartic to throw out things and really take stock of things, whether it's makeup, or just anything else in life. The one thing I feel grateful for in the last time is more of this time to figure out what *I* actually want, even if it's not what I expected one year ago.
Took a half day yesterday and ended up at the lake. It wasn't too cold, but the skyline looked amazing. I'm still pretty sad these days, not gonna lie, but it felt nice to do something outside and I hope this weather sticks around so I can experience

Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back
Today was a holiday, it meant I didn't need to go to work, but when work is just a desk in your living room two feet from your couch, it still feels like you're always at work and never at work, and always waiting until you just turn the laptop back on. Days have no real meaning, time has no meaning, the monotony is just what it is now. Today wasn't a good day. I didn't have to do anything and I couldn't really do anything. Stuff felt pointless, hobbies felt pointless. Everything felt hard and yet I still had to force myself through it. Here's to basically just muddling through. Because we're all gonna have these days and to pretend you don't isn't helping anyone, even yourself.

I even threw on a dress and tights so at least I partially felt like we were really going out! ♥️ Not our most exciting anniversary, but definitely in the top ten 😉.
First pic on the grid in 2021 is a makeup free, eye bag visible, sunshine selfie and I'm not mad about it. The last few weeks have been rough, but so have the last two months of lockdown in Toronto and hell, the last ten months in general. But it is

But it is still nice to see some sunshine, even if it's bouncing off of 1 Bloor East & blasting me in the face as I try to read! 😂☀️
