The April Lipstick Challenge: Day One to Eight

April Lipstick Challenge: Week One

From pinks to nudes, blue-toned reds to fuschias, I've finished my first eight days of the April Lipstick Challenge and I'm pretty impressed with my results! I didn't use any vetoes, I wore each lipstick in public, and despite having to do some re-shoots for the colours, I think they each got a fair shake.

Here was week one...

  • L'Oreal Colour Riche - Real Red
  • Nanacoco Lip Gloss - Popular
  • Joe Fresh Cream Lipstick - Bare
  • OCC Lip Tar - Pretty Boy
  • Nicka K Lipstick - Begonia
  • Bite Beauty - Strangefruit
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick - Sugar Honey
  • Urban Decay Lipstick - F-Bomb

L'Oreal Colour Riche - Real Red

L'Oreal Colour Riche - Real Red

I chose this lipstick specifically because I never wear it. It's a nice blue-toned red that I picked up at a L'Oreal Warehouse Sale last year for about $4. It paints a gorgeous pout and I definitely fielded a lot of comments wearing this striker in public. But unfortunately, it also feathers and has that TOTALLY WEIRD scent of Play-Doh? I dunno. As nice as it looks I'd rather find a higher quality version. I think I found my first toss!

Nanacoco Lip Gloss - Popular

Nanacoco Popular

Just getting this out there early - I'm not a fan of lip gloss. I hate that hair gets stuck in it, I hate that gummy feeling on my lips and I hate that it cakes, cakes, cakes! THAT SAID, I really like this shade. I didn't really use it after I got it in my Beauty Box 5 last summer, but it's a really playful and youthful pink. I find that it does get gummy once it's been on the lips for awhile, making that odd film between the inside of your mouth and your outer lip. DESPITE that, the colour is so cheery that I think I'll keep this around for now.

Joe Fresh Bare

Joe Fresh Cream Lipstick - Bare

Nude shades aren't usually my cup of tea, but I remember feverishly running to Joe Fresh to buy Bare so I could test out my own ombre styles with it... and... let's just say I'm glad the trend faded. And lippie has sat in the bottom of my makeup bag barely used ever since! It's a sheer pinky-toned creamy lipstick that absolutely does not dry out my lips. It doesn't add much colour but it's not a bad decision to use it as a base and put a stained gloss or something over top. I might try playing around with this one more. Just... no ombre.

OCC Lip Tar - Pretty Boy

OCC Lip Tar - Pretty Boy

This is the lip tar that started my love affair with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I had a big love-affair with fuschia when this went down and I couldn't keep this colour off of my lips. Like any lip tar, it takes a teensy weensy dab for full coverage and if you a) use a primer and LET IT SET and b) use the lip tar and keep your lips dry for a half-hour, you've got some long-lasting colour. Only intense eating and drinking will require a touch up to keep the colour alive.

Nicka K Begonia

Nicka K Lipstick - Begonia

This unique Nicka K lipstick in Begonia is a shimmery berry colour that I received from my April 2014 Beauty Box 5 subscription. Yeah, it's not lost on me that I'm reviewing it a year later. While I don't wear it daily, this lipstick has a metallic sheen to it and is seriously eye-catching. It's long lasting for such a moisturizing lipstick, and while it does transfer, it's not that bad. It's similar to my Kat Von D Adora lipstick, but with more of a mauve-tint.

Bite Beauty - Strangefruit

Bite Beauty - Strangefruit

Procured from the cute little Sephora Meet Your Match kit, I'd heard much about Bite Beauty's customizable lipsticks and glosses, but this was my first time testing one out. I was surprised that the product that seemed very fuschia in the package would turn out to be more of a hot pink on my lips. I do think it's rather plucky and the formula is quite nice. It has a pleasant passionfruit smell and the formula is rather long-lasting for a gloss. Definitely worth grabbing another colour of this brand!

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick - Sugar Honey

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick - Sugar Honey

Perfect for when you need a quick, subtle pop of colour for work or for play. This is my first Estee Lauder lipstick and it certainly won't be my last. It has a light, sweet scent and dries to a nice, velvety finish. The only thing is that since it's really subtle, I didn't notice when it faded out! Nobody really noticed I was wearing anything when I had this on because it faded halfway through the day.

Urban Decay - F-Bomb

Urban Decay Lipstick - F-Bomb

And what could be better than ending this first 'week' with a winner like this? This was an easy one, Urban Decay's lipsticks are my absolute favourite. I love how rich and moisturizing their formulas are, their colours are unmatched, they are long-lasting and sure to turn a lot of heads. I always get tons of compliments when I wear this shade, which can be used sparingly to really redden the lips or can be layered and painted on for a real impressive pout. F-Bomb is one of their best-sellers for a reason, it's a must for everybody's lipstick collection.

Now to get ready for week two!
