Look of the Day: Back-To-School Graphic Liner

Lancome Grandiose Extreme 003, Too Faced Totally Cute Palette, Essence All About Paradise, Rimmel Colour Precise & Too Faced Melted Metallic Dream House

Now that the Labour Day long weekend has ended, it finally, truly feels like September. While summer may officially last until September 22nd, any Canadian knows that any more 'summer weather' we get from now until next June is really a random blessing, not an expectation. So I chose to honour the last true summer long-weekend with a colourful makeup look that incorporates one of the current beauty trends, graphic blue liner!

For this look, I started with Urban Decay's Primer Potion, and Nyx's Milk Jumbo Eye Pencil to create a solid, unmoving base for colour on my lids. I know not everyone likes to use a base as it's an extra step, but I find for the yellow I'll use below, a base colour not only helps it brighten, it helps the shadow adhese easier.

I applied Unicorn from the Too Faced Totally Cute palette across my brow bone and under my eyebrow to help soften and brighten my upper eye area. While I'm on the subject, Totally Cute is a criminally underappreciated palette with three fabulous base shades and a cute variety of bold and edgy shimmers. I know it came hot on the heels of the Peanut Butter & Jelly and coveted Peach Palettes, but I have a soft spot for it.

Then for the rest of my look, I used my Essence All About Paradise palette and went to town! I applied the yellow on my inner eye, blending it across 2/3rds of my lid, but not to the furthest edge. I packed on the light, but shimmery peach shade on the inner brow, blending it up into where I had applied Unicorn, and then used a flat brush to dab on the VERY pigmented magenta shade. While I could be very liberal with my use of the yellow and peach, I had to make sure the magenta didn't overwhelm the other colours, and instead looked like a natural sunset-like gradiant. Just a light touch!

Close-up. I may have photoshopped my brow cleaner but the rest is legit!

Then after blending (always blending) I took my Rimmel Colour Precise 002 pencil in Blue (which was gifted to me by a benevolant co-worker who knows I like colourful looks) and gave myself a gentle flick of a mini-wing. I find with some of these VERY colourful eyeliners, that a little really goes a long way. I don't need a FULL cat-eye because the colour is already so striking.

And not that I managed to capture it well, but the mascara I used was Lancome's Grandiose Extreme 03 in Blue, which added a really BRIGHT effect in person, but was hard for me to capture on camera except for the close-up to the left. I really love the Grandiose line of mascaras, they add so much volume and the Extreme line really gives an amazing colour-payoff too.

To top it off, I reached back to my Too Faced collection and used the Too Faced Melted Metallic Dreamhouse for a pop of fuschia with some pink/purple shimmer in it. I waffled between Too Faced Melted Candy and this one and think this made a stronger choice. The metallic really shows up well in natural summer lighting!

And voila! The rest of this look is my basic day-to-day makeup routine, Smashbox Moisturizing Primer, IT Cosmetics CC Cream in Fair, Tarte Park Princess Bronzer, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Caramel and her Brow Gel, and Benefit Sugarbomb on my cheeks.

Have you jumped on the blue eyeliner train yet? Do you love/hate that it's come back in style? Let me know!
