Budget Beauty - COVERGIRL So Lashy! Mascara & Intensify Me Eyeliner

It's officially mid-January and despite the fact that I can count the number of times I've gone out this month on one hand, I always want to make sure people notice when I'm in a crowd. And often a great dramatic eye is all it takes (or all I have time to really do. Whatever! Don't judge me!) Luckily COVERGIRL's So Lashy! Mascara makes it really easy and affordable to rock your eye game on any given Sunday (or Monday, Wednesday, any day really.) I also got to test the COVERGIRL Intensify Me! Eyeliner along the way, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, I'll get to that a little later on.

COVERGIRL So Lashy!

So, it appears I've had quite a reversal over the last little while. Despite fully giving up on drugstore mascara a few years ago, these brands, COVERGIRL in particular, has really stepped up their game trying to win me and other consumers back! And what am I finding out? Well, you don't need to spend $$ for big, impressive lashes. It doesn't mean I'm no longer loving my Lancome or Smashbox mascara (I have a weakness, can you tell?) but that it means I don't ALWAYS have to reach for something pricier.

So I've been using CoverGirl's So Lashy for the last 3 weeks and I'm officially a drugstore mascara believer again! The applicator has a really unique shape, it's a four pronged wand with a little spike at the tip of the wand to get those baby-fine edge-lashes. And while it does seem a bit bizarre at first, the flexibility of this wand allows you to customize and layer your mascara for luxe volume, or regular coverage, regardless of the length of your lashes. It doesn't offer BIG volume, but it can be built to add a nice level of intensity.

I also found that this mascara was pretty smudgeproof, lasting through the work day and into the evening with no smudges or flaking. I'd have to test it in summer to get the full approval on this metric, but I haven't turned into a raccoon even once yet, despite being a NOTORIOUS face rubber, so far so good!

Unfortunately, while I was super impressed with So Lashy, the matching eyeliner left me a bit disappointed...

COVERGIRL Intensify Me! Sapphire Eyeliner

COVERGIRL Intensify Me Eyeliner in Sapphire with the broad and tapered strokes.

At first was so excited when I received COVERGIRL's Intensify Me! Sapphire Eyeliner for review because if there's ONE colour I'm lacking in my arsenal, it's a royal/sapphire blue. I have dark navy, baby blue, a bright teal, but no sapphire. And while colour really blew my mind, and the eyeliner was firm and offered a flattened tip to do broad and light strokes, I felt like this liquid eyeliner was a miss.

To explain, I have hooded eyes and while I LIVE for liquid liners, it's really hard for me to find one that can handle rubbing against my lids and eyeshadow all day. I've been very lucky with liquid liners from Essence, but I've had other drugstore brands that just can't seem to settle and like to migrate. And this was one of them. I found that the COVERGIRL Intensify Me! moved around really easily after a few hours and didn't pass my smudge test, rubbing off insanely easily, which really isn't idea it you want to be able to trust your makeup all day.

I think if you have less hooded eyes and the likelihood of it smudging is lessened, it's a gorgeous colour, but I definitely won't be reaching for this again. It's such a shame because I REALLY LOVE the applicator and the wide/thin tip, but the formula just doesn't work for me.

You can get COVERGIRL So Lashy and Intensify Me pretty much anywhere where COVERGIRL is sold. I definitely saw So Lashy at my local Rexall for about $10, so if you're looking for an affordable alternative to your favourite high-end wand, this is a good one to try!
